Akoia’s love of sustaining handmade work of art from many traditions, we have taken another journey into the craft and skills of Batik and its Artisans of Indonesia. We traveled to very small remote villages where we found some batiks that told stories of centuries past . With this passing of time not only are we able to keep the work of women artisans alive but also preserve their traditional methods and culture. It fits into our ethos of slow fashion philosophy and the traditional method of this unique art fits in with the artisanal essence of crochet. Working closely with our pattern makers and fabric cutters, we were able to keep the undamaged portion of the fabrics and repurpose them into our latest bikinis, in a very limited edition. As we place our patterns amongst the batiks you will find that no 2 bikinis will ever be the same.Batik tells stories that have been around for hundreds of years, and we wanted to gently bring them into light in our own way to give it, and the artisans, a chance in the modern fashion industry.
